Our journey into Dormer breeding has been a unique and fulfilling adventure. The name Anmatth represents a fusion of our two beloved grandchildren, Ané and Matthew, symbolising the unity and passion that drive our work. Both my wife and I come from professional backgrounds—mine in the fertiliser industry and hers in the pharmaceutical sector—yet farming has always been in our blood. My wife grew up on a farm, and my ancestors farmed until two generations before me. We began as part-time farmers, but our passion turned into a full-time venture when we purchased Farm Gelukspruit near Edenville in the Free State. In May 2023, after 30 years in Pretoria, we embraced a new chapter of our lives on the farm. My background as a plant geneticist, coupled with experience in the Small Grain Development Program near Bethlehem, sparked my long-standing interest in genetic development. This passion naturally led to the founding of Anmatth Dormers in mid-2022. With the guidance of a new friend, Danie Thomas (Kairos Dormers), whom we coincidentally met on a neighbouring farm, we began assembling breeding material to establish our stud.
